Pentecost Sunday 2016 – Psalm 104:24

Psalm 104:24O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Yesterday started out as a dreary day in Memphis with clouds blocking out any good view of the sky.  But it seemed that in less than an hour around lunch, the clouds broke, and God’s blue sky and warm sun transformed the day into glorious.

Creator God, thank you for the creative imprint you have left and continue to leave on this Earth.  Amen.

Proper 24/Ordinary 29 2015 – Psalm 104:24

Psalm 104:24 – O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

I chose this verse to end our week together so that we can begin our weekend with praise.  As you encounter the vastness of God’s creation today, take time to thank God.  And be specific: for beautiful Fall leaves, for an amazing blue sky, for awesome coworkers.

Everlasting God, thank you for surrounding us with an abundance of evidence of your creative love for us.  Amen.

Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Psalm 104:24, 33-34, 35b

Friday, June 10, 2011 – Pentecost Sunday, Year A

Psalm 104:24, 33-34, 35bO LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

I thought this a wonderful prayer with which to end our week. The passages in Acts and 1 Corinthians drive home how precious each of us is to God’s kingdom. God’s Spirit has touched each of us in an amazing way. A primary duty is to share the resulting gifts with others.

Prayer: Mighty but gentle God, thank you for your steadfast presence in our lives. Help us discern our gifts so that we might share them with others as you would wish. AMEN.

Proper 24/Ordinary 29 – Psalm 104:24, 35c

From Psalm 104:24, 35c – O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Praise the LORD!

The temperatures have begun to moderate and some of the leaves are starting to change color. With the heat and humidity of Memphis summers behind me, I find myself walking outside in the morning stretching my arms out to God in appreciation for this wonderful world.

Prayer:

Creator God, thank you for the change of seasons so we can be reminded of your ongoing presence in our lives. AMEN.

Pentecost – Psalm 104:24, 30

From Psalm 104:24, 30 – O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures…When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground. May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works.

We are reminded of the intimate relationship in which we live with God. The Holy Spirit surrounds us and inhabits us. Our challenge, I think, is to somehow keep this connection in mind throughout each day.

Prayer:

Life-giving God, help us be aware of your constant presence so that we might draw on your strength in all we do. AMEN.
