Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Isaiah 64:8

Monday, November 21, 2011 – First Sunday of Advent, Year B

Sunday will herald the beginning of Advent. Advent is a time of great anticipation both of Christ’s birth and Christ’s eventual return. For the first Sunday of Advent the lectionary texts include: Isaiah 64:1-9; Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 and Mark 13:24-37.

Isaiah 64:8Yet, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

I love the imagery of God as potter and us as clay. But unlike a potter spinning a pot, our role in the design is not passive. We listen for God and seek to live into the plan God has for us.

Prayer: Almighty God, help us to be better seekers of your will so that we might be the people you want us to be. AMEN.
