Acts 16:22-23 – The crowd joined in attacking Paul and Silas, and the magistrates had them stripped of their clothing and ordered them to be beaten with rods. After they had given them a severe flogging, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely.
This might not be a pleasant image to begin a devotional moment, but I couldn’t help but think of the God-given gift of modern healthcare when I read this passage. Antibiotics, sterile technique, and a highly trained medical workforce are just three gifts that come to mind immediately. Today, pray for all people who participate in ministries of healing.
God our ultimate healer, bless the minds, eyes and hands of all who seek to alleviate our pains and our illnesses. Amen.
