Sixth Sunday of Epiphany 2017 – Deuteronomy 30:19-20a

Monday, February 6, 2017

The lectionary selections for the sixth Sunday of Epiphany cause us to reflect on what it means to follow God’s law.  Those passages include: Deuteronomy 30:15-20; Psalm 119:1-8; 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 and Matthew 5:21-37.  Sirach 15:15-20, from the Apocrypha, is an alternate selection to the Deuteronomy passage.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20aI call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him; for that means life to you and length of days…

Listen for God’s prodding in your life, and walk confidently toward God’s will.  In this way, you can ‘Choose life!’ and drive yourself closer to God.

Loving God, help us hear your voice in our lives so that we can live in closer communion with you.  Amen.
