Proper 14/Ordinary 19 2016 – Isaiah 1:16-17

Isaiah 1:16-17Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.

In Isaiah’s vision, God is scolding the people of Judah and Jerusalem and pleading for them to have their faith be reflected in their actions.  Those actions emphasize caring for those less fortunate.

Gracious God, help us to see the needs of those around us, and give us the wisdom to know how best to help them.  Amen.
