Proper 14 (19) 2016 – Genesis 15:5-6

God’s promises, our faith and the treasures we should store up are explored in the lectionary selections for this week.  Those passages include: Isaiah 1:1, 10-20 and Psalm 50:1-8, 22-23, Genesis 15:1-6 and Psalm 33:12-22, Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16, and Luke 12:32-40.

Genesis 15:5-6 – The LORD brought Abram outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”  And Abram believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness.

My mom’s 80th birthday is today, and I am sure my interest in astronomy comes from her.  For me, a star-filled sky is one of the most beautiful sights to behold.  It helps me to get a tangible sense of the vastness of God’s creation.

God of promise, help our faith to grow in ways that can comprehend your mighty role in our lives.  Amen.
