Proper 7/Ordinary 12 2016 – Luke 8:26-27

Jesus heals the Gerasene demoniac and one of Paul’s most beloved passages are included in the lectionary selections for this week.  Our passages include: 1 Kings 19:1-4, (5-7), 8-15a and Psalm 42 and 43, Isaiah 65:1-9 and Psalm 22:19-28, Galatians 3:23-29, and Luke 8:26-39.

Luke 8:26-27Then they arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.  As he stepped out on land, a man of the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs.

I believe if we look carefully today, each of us will see someone who reminds us of the Gerasene demoniac.  Maybe he will be the man sleeping on the bus stop bench barefoot with tattered clothes and dust-filled hair or the woman on the corner preaching to a congregation only she can see.

Creator God, help us to see EVERY person we see today as our brother or our sister.  Amen.
