Proper 5/Ordinary 10 2106 – Luke 7:11-12

Luke 7:11-12Soon afterwards Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him.  As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother’s only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town.

Nain, a Muslim village for centuries, is described as an insignificant town known only for this one event.  But in 1880, Franciscans acquired the ruins of a small mosque from the local Muslim community in Nain.  This mosque had been a church centuries before.  This simple, tiny church has two pictures inside it which depict this passage.

Creator God, remind us to see one another as brothers and sisters.   Help us to work cooperatively to make this world better for all.  Amen.
