Proper 5/Ordinary 10 2016 – 1 Kings 17:8-9

Monday, May 31, 2016

We can think about some of the most vulnerable people among us as we meditate together this week.  Widows are helped in significant ways by both Elijah and Jesus in the lectionary selections for this week.  Those passages include: 1 Kings 17:8-16, (17-24) and Psalm 146, 1 Kings 17:17-24 and Psalm 30, Galatians 1:11-24, Luke 7:11-17.

1 Kings 17:8-9Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah, saying, “Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”

I think of Elijah’s life as an ongoing conversation with God – talk, listen, act, repeat.  Our challenge is to try and do the same in our own relationships with God.

Gracious God, attune our ears to your voice so that we can know your will for us.  Amen.
