Elijah offers a challenge to the prophets of Baal, and Jesus heals a centurion’s slave in the passages for this coming Sunday.  Those lectionary selections include: 1 Kings 18:20-21, (22-29), 30-39 and Psalm 96, 1 Kings 8:22-23, 41-43 and Psalm 96:1-9, Galatians 1:1-12, and Luke 7:1-10.

1 Kings 18:20-21So Ahab sent to all the Israelites, and assembled the prophets at Mount Carmel.  Elijah then came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people did not answer him a word.

If you are like me, you approach difficult decisions by collecting and analyzing information.  My personal challenge is often making the actual decision in light of the available facts.

Understanding God, give us discerning minds so that we can make the decisions you wish us to make.  Amen.
