Third Sunday of Easter 2016 – Acts 9:10-11

Acts 9:10-11Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, “Here I am, Lord.”  The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul. At this moment he is praying…”

I often wonder if I am ready to say “Here I am, Lord,” no matter what the request.  It is clear that following Jesus after his crucifixion, was dangerous to say the least and often deadly.  Yet our Christian faith today owes so much to the men and women who, like Ananias, followed God’s call even when it could lead to great harm to themselves.

Almighty God, help us to have the courage to follow you wherever you lead us.  Amen.
