Fifth Sunday of Lent 2016 – Isaiah 43:16, 18

Monday, March 7, 2016

For me, looking into the future is a prominent theme in the lectionary selections for the fifth Sunday of Lent.  Our passages include: Isaiah 43:16-21, Psalm 126, Philippians 3:4b-14, and John 12:1-8.

Isaiah 43:16, 18Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters…: Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.

When I first read this, I considered the guilt some of us carry for past wrongs.  We worship a forgiving God, and we honor our faith by trusting God’s forgiveness of us.

Gracious God, we have sinned, and we have asked for forgiveness.  Help us to trust your love for us by accepting your blessing of forgiveness.  Amen.
