First Sunday of Epiphany 2016 – Psalm 29:4-5

Wednesday, December 6, 2016

Psalm 29:4-5The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.  The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

Cedars of Lebanon were some of the strongest trees available to the people of what is now the Middle East.  These cedars were used in the building of ocean-going ships and temples.  And yet, the psalmist sees the cedars of Lebanon as no match for God’s voice.

Almighty God, help us to hear your powerful yet still small voice in our lives today and every day.  Amen.
