Baptism of the Lord Sunday 2016 – Isaiah 43:1

Monday, January 4, 2016

In Christian churches following the liturgical calendar, Sunday represents Baptism of the Lord Sunday.   This week we will be asked to remember Christ’s baptism.  Our selections for this week include:  Isaiah 43:1-7, Psalm 29, Acts 8:14-17, and Luke 3:15-17, 21-22.

Isaiah 43:1 – But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

The Christian tradition of my childhood practiced infant baptism, but as an adolescent, my Christian tradition of the time practiced believer’s baptism.  As an infant, my parents’ community welcomed me into their care as a child of God.  As a teenager, I told the members of my church that I believed and wanted to be a part of their community.

Creator God, however we have been marked as belonging to you, help us to live faithfully in ways which honor you.  Amen.
