Second Sunday of Advent 2015 – Luke 3:1-2

Luke 3:1-2In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

You can get the idea from the Bible that God spoke very clearly to the prophets like John the Baptist, and that may be true.  But for most of us, hearing God’s voice requires intentional effort, and even then the clarity with which we express what we heard is a leap of faith itself.

Almighty God, bless our efforts to hear your voice in our lives, and forgive us when our best efforts to represent your will miss the mark.  Amen.
