Proper 29/Ordinary 34 2015 – 2 Samuel 23:1

King David speaks his “last words,” and Pilate challenges Jesus with questions in the selections for this week.  The lectionary scriptures include: 2 Samuel 23:1-7 and Psalm 132:1-12, (13-18), Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 and Psalm 93, Revelation 1:4b-8, and John 18:33-37.

2 Samuel 23:1Now these are the last words of David: The oracle of David, son of Jesse, the oracle of the man whom God exalted, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the favorite of the Strong One of Israel:

Few of us will be offered the opportunity for prophetic last words.  What we are offered is the challenge to live each day connected to God and our neighbors in ways that speak well of us and of our lived faith.

Understanding God, prod us to live our lives in ways which offer testaments of our faith in you.  Amen.
