Proper 24/Ordinary 29 2015 – Isaiah 53:11

Monday, October 12, 2015

God’s creative presence and God’s sovereignty are explored, while Jesus asks the disciples if they are able to drink the cup he will drink.  The lectionary selections for this week include:  Job 38:1-7, (34-41) and Psalm 104:1-9, 24, 35c, Isaiah 53:4-12 and Psalm 91:9-16,Hebrews 5:1-10, and Mark 10:35-45.

Isaiah 53:11 – Out of his anguish he shall see light; he shall find satisfaction through his knowledge. The righteous one, my servant, shall make many righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

The text from Isaiah speaks of the suffering servant who loses his life so that others can live forgiven lives.  While most of us may not be asked to make such a sacrifice for others, we are reminded that as people of faith, we should feel compelled to stand in the gaps for others in need.

Creator God, give us both wisdom and courage to faithfully execute your will as we understand it.  Amen.
