Mark 7:32-34They brought to Jesus a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him.  He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue.  Then looking up to heaven, Jesus sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

Earlier in this passage, Jesus is trying to find time to be alone, to rest, so I couldn’t help but focus on the phrase, “Jesus sighed…”  Helping people in need can be most rewarding, but it is also okay to admit that it can be exhausting.

Ever-present God, replenish our spirits and grant us rest so that we can serve your people to the best of our ability.  Amen.
