Proper 15/Ordinary 20 2015 – 1 Kings 2:10-11

Monday, August 10, 2015

Our summer with David comes to an end this week, and we begin to study the reign of King Solomon.  We also continue to read the wisdom found in Ephesians, and Jesus foreshadows his own death in this week’s selections which include: 1 Kings 2:10-12; 3:3-14 and Psalm 111, Proverbs 9:1-6 and Psalm 34:9-14, Ephesians 5:15-20, and John 6:51-58.

1 Kings 2:10-11Then David slept with his ancestors, and was buried in the city of David.  The time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

David was a complicated man to say the least.  Like us, he offered God both great acts of faith and moments of tremendous disappointment.  Yet through it all, David always went to God in prayer; his conversation with God never ceased.

Gracious God, keep us mindful of your presence in our lives.  When our grip on you begins to loosen, help us to remain in solid connection with you.  Amen.
