Proper 14/Ordinary 19 2015 – Ephesians 4:31-32

Ephesians 4:31-32Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

Are there any better words to describe how we should act toward one another than kind and tenderhearted?  And yet, the first words of the passage remind us that good people struggle with bitterness and wrath, too.

Forgiving God, keep us mindful of the goodness tucked within each of our neighbors, and forgive us when we act poorly toward them.  Amen.
