Proper 13/Ordinary 18 2015 – Psalm 51:10-12

Psalm 51:10-12Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.

It is difficult to read about David’s infidelity and conspiracy in the 11th and 12th chapters of 2 Samuel.  Yet David falls before God with a contrite heart, and creates this wonderful song requesting forgiveness and cleansing.

Almighty God, we ask  you to not only forgive us for all those times we act improperly toward one another, but also forgive us for those times we fail to act as you want us to act.  Amen.
