Proper 6/Ordinary 11 2015 – Mark 4:33-34

Mark 4:33-34With many such parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.

These two verses come right after the favorite parable of the mustard seed…the tiniest seed that when sown “becomes the greatest of all shrubs.” (v. 32) Jesus used metaphors to deliver his message to the people of his time, and I must admit that I wish we had Jesus with us to offer metaphors explaining how the scriptures apply in our more modern world.

Gracious God, give us wisdom to better understand your will for us and for our world.  Amen.
