Pentecost Sunday 2015 – Acts 2:5-8

Acts 2:5-8Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem.  And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each.  Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?  And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?

As I read this favorite selection from the Pentecost story in Acts, I can’t help but think how we are all Memphians or Tennesseans or (fill in the blank).  That said, truly understanding one another takes special listening skills.

Gracious and forgiving God, equip us to hear our brothers and sisters in ways that help us to recognize the needs of one another.  Amen.
