Sixth Sunday of Easter 2015 – John 15:12-13

Monday, May 4, 2015

We are approaching the sixth Sunday of the Easter season, and like the passages from last week, how we get along together continues as a theme in the lectionary.  Our selections for this week include: Acts 10:44-48, Psalm 98, 1 John 5:1-6, and John 15:9-17.

John 15:12-13 – “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Friendship, especially friendship borne out of our faith, is not superficial.  While most of us will never face the ultimate test as in these verses, we are challenged to have a sacrificial love for one another.

Understanding God, help us to deepen our desire to assist one another in meaningful ways.  Amen.
