Third Sunday of Easter 2015 – Psalm 4:1

Monday, April 13, 2015

As we approach the third Sunday of Easter, we read Luke’s account of Jesus revealing himself to the startled disciples.  Our lectionary selections for this week include:  Acts 3:12-19, Psalm 4, 1 John 3:1-7, and Luke 24:36b-48.

Psalm 4:1Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

In the Good News translation has the second sentence read, “When I was in trouble, you helped me.”  I was in a serious computer bind a few weeks, and I was unable solve the problem myself.  Time was of the essence, so I prayed to God for help.  Within five minutes there was a knock at my door, and I welcomed a member of IT into my office.

Gracious God, help us to appreciate our roles as your emissaries, as people you can use to answer the prayers of others.  Amen.
