Fifth Sunday of Lent 2015 – John 12:24-25

John 12:24-25 (from The Message translation) – “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never more than a grain of wheat.  But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over.  In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life.  But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.”

My friend Nancy gave me a copy of The Message translation many years ago.  I consult it from time to time when I am writing these devotions.  Consider today what it means to serve God with reckless abandon, to be like Jesus as best you can “ready to serve at a moment’s notice.” (John 12:26, The Message)

God of infinite wisdom, mold us into the disciples you want us to be.  Amen.
