Transfiguration Sunday 2015 – 2 Kings 2:1-2

Monday, February 9, 2015

Sunday will signal the end of Epiphany, and we will enter the season of Lent.  For this coming Sunday, known in many traditions as Transfiguration Sunday, the lectionary offers the following scriptures: 2 Kings 2:1-12, Psalm 50:1-6, 2 Corinthians 4:3-6, and Mark 9:2-9.

2 Kings 2:1-2Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.  Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

Loyalty offered by a friend or loved one is a precious gift.  None of us can walk alone, and all of us need at least one person who will stand by us even when the road becomes difficult.

Steadfast God, thank you for the Elisha’s in our lives.  May they always be present for us in our hour of need.  Amen.
