Epiphany 2015 – Matthew 2:1-2

Monday, January 5, 2015

January 6 is celebrated as Epiphany in many Christian traditions.  Epiphany is highlighted by remembering the visit of the wise men to the infant Jesus, the time that Jesus was first revealed to Gentiles.  The passages for Epiphany include: Isaiah 60:1-6, Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14, Ephesians 3:1-12, and Matthew 2:1-12.

Matthew 2:1-2 – In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.”

Light is such an important symbol in the Bible.  The wise men followed a light, Jesus is the light, and we are asked to be light for others.  Today, consider the ways in which your faith is a beacon for others.

Gracious God, help us to share our faith with others in ways that bring light into their darker places.  Amen.
