Third Sunday of Advent, 2014 – Isaiah 61:1

Monday, December 8, 2014

We are heading toward the third Sunday of Advent.  Christmas is almost upon us.  Our scripture selections for this week include: Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11, Psalm 126 or Luke 1:46b-55, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 and John 1:6-8, 19-28.

Isaiah 61:1The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners;

This well known selection from Isaiah asks us to claim what God has called us to do, and it also challenges us to work toward its accomplishment.

Almighty God, help us to discern your will for us and grant us the courage to walk on those paths you have laid before us.  Amen.
