Second Sunday of Advent, 2014 – Mark 1:6-7

Mark 1:6-7Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.  He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals.”

I can’t read these verses without indicting myself.  While I often write about seeing the face of God in everyone we meet, I can’t help but realize how difficult it would be for me to see someone dressed like John and believe the words coming out of his or her mouth.

God of mystery, help us to see your handiwork in the faces of each person we meet both today and every day.  Amen.
