Proper 27/Ordinary 32, 2014 – Joshua 24:14

Monday, November 3, 2014

Tucked inside the lectionary selections for this week are some of the most beloved and recognizable verses in the Bible.  Our passages include: Joshua 24:1-3a, 14-25 and Psalm 78:1-7, Wisdom of Solomon 6:12-16 or Amos 5:18-24 and Wisdom of Solomon 6:17-20 or Psalm 70, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, and Matthew 25:1-13.

Joshua 24:14“Now therefore revere the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.”

This is a wonderful passage with which to begin our week together.  Joshua reminds the people that their past is just that…their past.  He encourages them to forget their past and serve the Lord.

Forgiving God, help us to remember that today is a new day and that your give us the opportunity to start fresh and write a new story for ourselves.  Amen.
