Proper 26/Ordinary 31, 2014 – Joshua 3:7-8

Monday, October 27, 2014

Our actions as people of faith is one of the themes of the lectionary this week.  The passages include: Joshua 3:7-17 and Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37, Micah 3:5-12 and Psalm 43, 1 Thessalonians 2:9-13 and Matthew 23:1-12.

Joshua 3:7-8 – The LORD said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they may know that I will be with you as I was with Moses.  You are the one who shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.'”

The Lord promises to elevate and uphold Joshua “in the sight of all Israel,” so they will know he has taken Moses’ place.  While most of us won’t have the opportunity to perform a miracle as evidence of God’s support of us, we will have ample opportunities to show others how God is active in our lives.

Loving God, may my actions today and every day reflect my faith in you.  Amen.
