Proper 23/Ordinary 28, 2014 – Exodus 32:7-8

Monday, October 6, 2014

Many familiar selections are offered for our study this week including the 23rd Psalm.  Lectionary passages include: Exodus 32:1-14 and Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23, Isaiah 25:1-9 and Psalm 23, Philippians 4:1-9, and Matthew 22:1-14.

Exodus 32:7-8The LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once! Your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have acted perversely; they have been quick to turn aside from the way that I commanded them; they have cast for themselves an image of a calf, and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!'”

After reading this passage I was reminded of Psalm 46:10 which reads, “Be still and know that I am God.”  Being still, being patient, has been difficult for generations.

Steadfast God, you have been patient with your people throughout time.  Help us to be patient with both you and with one another.  Amen.
