Matthew 14:24-26…but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning Jesus came walking toward the disciples on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear.

Looking at this story through our modern eyes, it is easy to think that the disciples shouldn’t have been afraid. Yet we are challenged by this passage to look for God everywhere, even in places where we might least expect God to be.

Ever-present God, help us sense your presence in each person we meet today. Amen.
