Fourth Sunday of Lent 2014

Thursday, May 8, 2014

John 10:3-4The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.

This passage would have had special meaning to the early Christians. It is my understanding that shepherds often herded sheep into a common pen at night. In the morning, the sheep would leave the pen following their own shepherd because they actually could recognize his voice.

Almighty God, help us to hear your voice more clearly in our lives. Amen.
