Fourth Sunday of Lent, 2014 – John 9:1-2

John 9:1-2As Jesus walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

It is easy to think of us as more civilized than the people of Jesus’ time. Who would blame blindness from birth on sin today? Yet people today routinely ostracize people struggling with addiction or living with HIV as having brought the malady on themselves.

Loving God, Jesus taught us to love everyone even outcasts as brothers and sisters in you. Give us strength to overcome the sometimes powerful emotions that cloud our vision. Amen.
