Fourth Sunday of Lent, 2014 – 1 Samuel 16:13

Monday, March 24, 2014

As we approach the fourth Sunday of Lent, the lectionary offers us the following scriptures: 1 Samuel 16:1-13, Psalm 23, Ephesians 5:8-14, and John 9:1-41.

1 Samuel 16:13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah.

Samuel anoints David and having completed the task God gave him, he immediately leaves for Ramah where David finds him in a few chapters later. David begins serving Saul by playing his lyre and by serving in his military. Seemingly without fanfare, both men return to serving God after this significant moment.

Gracious God, give us confidence in ourselves so that we can walk boldly into your calling for us. Amen.
