Third Sunday of Lent, 2014 – Exodus 17:1

Monday, March 17, 2014

As we approach the third Sunday of the Lenten season, we are offered these scripture passages: Exodus 17:1-7, Psalm 95, Romans 5:1-11, and John 4:5-42.

Exodus 17:1From the wilderness of Sin the whole congregation of the Israelites journeyed by stages, as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.

The passage notes that the Israelites traveled by “stages.” Our lives go through various stages, and like the Exodus of the Israelites, some stages of our lives bring hardship. We are reminded, however, that God is always with us and ready to answer our prayers.

Steadfast God, thank you for always being there for us throughout the expanse of our lives. Amen.
