Second Sunday of Lent, 2014 – Psalm 121:3-5

Psalm 121:3-5He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper…

I have a large Labrador retriever. Despite his size and strength he is utterly dependent on my wife and me for his food, water and shelter. While I am not suggesting God sees us as pets, the use of “keeper” in this Psalm made me think hard about how easy it is to fail to look to God for help and support.

Steadfast God, thank you for always being ready to hear our prayers when we decide to offer them. Amen.
