A Day in the Life of Jesus – Mark 1:29-31

Mark 1:29-31As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

Jesus is asked to heal a second time this day. What strikes me about this passage is that Simon’s mother-in-law didn’t receive her healing until Jesus first took her hand and lifted her up. Whether by the gentle touch of a hand or the kindly spoken word, all of us have the power to lift one another up.

Loving God, help us move people physically and emotionally in ways that bring healing to them. Amen.
