A Journey Through Proverbs – Proverbs 1:1-3

Introduction

Proverbs 1:1-3The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: For learning about wisdom and instruction, for understanding words of insight, for gaining instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice and equity.

A coworker and friend, Sheridan Smotherman, suggested I write a one-month devotional series using the book of Proverbs – one reflection from each of the thirty one chapters in Proverbs. I invite you to join me on this journey as we begin 2014.

January 1, 2014

Proverbs 1:8-9Hear, my child, your father’s instruction, and do not reject your mother’s teaching: for they are a fair garland for your head, and pendants for your neck.

I have been blessed with wise and loving parents. I am also surrounded by people of great faith through my work and church families. Think of the life mentors you have had in your life, and give thanks for them as the new year begins.

Prayer: Gracious God, we offer thanks this day for those people who have helped guide us. May we continue to hear their voices throughout our lives. Amen.

We have always prayed for God’s guidance in raising our young children and we soon learned that our prayers changed and perhaps matured as our children grew older. To this day we have a hard time understanding how we could be so blessed with you and Linda as our very own children…….God is great. Much love Mom
