Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Luke 19:3-5

Friday, November 1, 2013 – Proper 26/Ordinary 31, Year C

Luke 19:3-5Zacchaeus was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.”

I often find myself in a situation where I am wishing I knew the right words to say so that I can offer comfort, support or praise. Zacchaeus, who reportedly says nothing before being noticed by Jesus, reminds us of the truth of the adage that actions often do speak louder than words.

Prayer: Gracious God, may our actions and our words toward one another reflect our faith in you. Amen.
