Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – 2 Kings 5:13-14

Thursday, October 10, 2013 – Proper 23/Ordinary 28, Year C

2 Kings 5:13-14But Naaman’s servants approached and said to him, “Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have done it? How much more, when all he said was, ‘Wash and be clean’?” So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God [Elisha]; his flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean.

Naaman thought the rivers in his country superior, so bathing in the Jordan River seemed to be an unlikely treatment. In this day of nearly unlimited access to both good and bad health information, we have to be prepared to accept that sometimes the treatment for what is ailing us is relatively simple…a change in our diet or adding more exercise to our daily regimen are two examples.

Prayer: Steadfast God, keep us mindful of the ways we can impact our own health in positive ways. Amen.
