Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Isaiah 58:9b-10

Tuesday, August 20, 2013 – Proper 16/Ordinary 21, Year C

Isaiah 58:9b-10If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like noonday.

As children, many of us learned the song that began: “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…” Our passage today reminds us how easy, and how difficult, making our light shine can be.

Prayer: Understanding God, you call us to come to the aid of others. Help us as we grapple to fulfill your will this and every day. Amen.
