Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Ecclesiastes 2:18-19

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 – Proper 13/Ordinary 18, Year C

Ecclesiastes 2:18-19I hated all my toil in which I had toiled under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to those who come after me – and who knows whether they will be wise or foolish? Yet they will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.

We don’t serve God alone but in a web of relationships that extends from those who came before us to those who follow us. Part of our faith journey is trusting that our successors will listen for God’s voice as we have.

Prayer: Almighty God, grant that our ears can hear you speaking to us and that our hearts are able to understand your will. Amen.
