Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Genesis 18:26-28

Tuesday, July 23, 2013 – Proper 12/Ordinary 17, Year C

Genesis 18:26-28And the LORD said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will forgive the whole place for their sake.” Abraham answered, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five? And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

God and Abraham do this back and forth for a few more verses. As I read it, I began to appreciate anew how through God, one person can make a significant difference in the world.

Prayer: Almighty God, be with us in our individual and collective efforts to make your creation better. Amen.
