Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Luke 10:40-42

Friday, July 19, 2013 – Proper 11/Ordinary 16, Year C

Luke 10:40-42But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, do you not care my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.

In the church of my youth, we were given campaign-style buttons to wear that had a finger pointed upward with the words, “I am third.” God, others and then self was the order of priority.

Prayer: Loving God, help us be joyful servants of your will and keep us mindful of the needs of those around us. Amen.
