Daily Devotion for the Church Health Center – Luke 7:2-5

Friday, May 31, 2013 – Proper 4/Ordinary 9, Year C

Luke 7:2-5A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.”

In ancient Rome, centurions commanded about 100 men, and they received their leadership position based on their skill and strength displayed on the battlefield as infantrymen. We are reminded this morning that we can learn from the faith of many, even the most unlikely among us.

Prayer: Almighty God, help us to see the light of faith in each person we meet today. Amen.
