Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Acts 16:17-19

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 – Seventh Sunday of Easter, Year C

Acts 16:17-19 While [the slave girl with a spirit of divination] followed Paul and us she would cry out, “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you a way of salvation.” She kept doing this for many days. But Paul, very much annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.

I find it easy to forget that Apostle Paul was merely human, so I treasure such passages as this one. Paul was very much annoyed by the incessant talking of the slave girl. Despite the truth of her words, he lost patience and commanded the spirit to leave her.

Prayer: Gracious God, grant us a measure of patience this day so that we might better serve those who come before us. Amen.
