Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Acts 16:16-17

Monday, May 6, 2013 – Seventh Sunday of Easter, Year C

For the seventh Sunday of Easter, the lectionary offers the following selections: Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 97; Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21 and John 17:20-26. The lectionary also marks Thursday as the Ascension of the Lord and includes special scriptures for this day including: Acts 1:1-11; Psalm 47 or Psalm 93; Ephesians 1:15-23 and Luke 24:44-53.

Acts 16:16-17One day, as we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners a great deal of money by fortune-telling. While she followed Paul and us, she would cry out, “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you a way of salvation.”

While we long to hear the truth, we tend to expect that it will be presented in familiar and recognizable ways. This passage reminds us that God’s truth can be revealed in unexpected and non-traditional ways.

Prayer: Almighty God, give us ears to hear your truth in the multitude of ways it can be presented to us. Amen.
